(BEIJING, August 16) -- There's no stopping Chris Hoy of Great Britain in the Sprint events at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games; the veteran won his second gold medal at the Laoshan Velodrome with victory in the Men's Keirin on Saturday.
Just a day after winning gold in the Men's Team Sprint, Hoy held off compatriot Ross Edgar to win the motor-paced Keirin Sprint.
Nagai Kiyofumi of Japan edged out Australia's Shane Kelly to claim the bronze medal in the six-rider final.
Defending Olympic champion Ryan Bayley of Australia didn't make it into the final round and sprinted to eighth in the second final.
The event was overshadowed by the disqualification of Teun Mulder of the Netherlands and the early exit of compatriot Theo Bos, two pre-race favorites.
Mulder, the 2005 Keirin world champion, was disqualified in the first round Repechage for entering the sprinter's lane when his opponent was already there.
Bos, the 2006 Keirin world champion, crashed after Kamil Kuczynski of Poland fell in front of him as the pace bike was still ramping up to speed during the second round. But he was later given a warning by the race jury that read: "A rider may not have the race stopped because of some irregularity of which he considers himself the victim."
Bos did not finish the second round and did not participate in the final 7-12 sprint.
In the first qualifying round, Italy's Robert Chiappa was relegated for going down too quickly after overtaking an opponent. That opened the door for Josiah Ng of Malaysia to pass into the second round.
